Programs
Services
Provided
Seeds provides a certified high quality “Caring
Place for Toddlers.” Our teachers c reate individual
plans for each child designed to encourage the students to
learn at their own pace. Through play, exploration and observation,
the toddler learns the disciplines of self reliance, social
interaction and problem solving geared to ready them for preschool.
Seeds provides a certified high quality preschool, where preschoolers
become kindergarten ready in all disciplines required. Through
plans designed for the individual student, they grow more
adept at social interaction and problem solving. They grow
in language and literacy, art and science.
In addition, we provide assessments for each child through
the use of Ages and Stages, and Creative
Curriculum. Through our cooperation with The San Juan Board
of Cooperative Services (BOCS), we provide services for children
at-risk in a wide range of need: hearing, sight, speech, developmental
delays, etc.
Toddler (18 mont hs to 3 years)
Seeds provides a certified high quality “Caring
Place for Toddlers.” We have a ratio of five
children to one teacher. Our teachers, working with Creative Curriculum, create individual learning
plans for each child designed to encourage students to
progress at their own pace. The children are engaged in creative
activities, science activities, music, dance and literature.
With the addition of at-risk children, the toddlers have the
advantage of interaction with others from different income
levels, who speak different languages, and who have different developmental delays. Through play, exploration and observation,
toddlers learn the disciplines of self reliance, social interaction
and problem solving geared to ready them for preschool.
Preschool
(3 years to 5 years)
Seeds provides a certified high quality preschool,
where preschoolers become kindergarten ready in all disciplines
required. During the school year, we have a ratio of eight
(8) students to one (1) teacher as a direct result of our
involvement with the Colorado Preschool Program. During the
summer season, we have a ratio of ten (10) children to (1)
teacher. Our teachers design learning plans for each individual
student. The result of such plans is that each student grows
more adept at social interaction and problem solving. With
the addition of at-risk (see below) children, the preschoolers
have the advantage of interaction with others from different
income levels, who speak different languages, and who have
different developmental delays. Our preschoolers grow in language
and literacy, art, music, dance and science. We have recently
enhanced our quality quotient by introducing a Music and Movement
program, Sonrisas Spanish School, and the nationally acclaimed Creative Curriculum
into our preschool.
Colorado Preschool Program (CPP)
Colorado General Assembly lawmakers recognize that young children
who are in need of language development are at risk of school
failure unless they can receive support offered by early childhood
care and educational services. They also recognize that parents
and community play an important role in every child’s
life and must be included as part of the program. The CPP
program is based on the Quality Standards for Early Childhood
Education set by the Colorado Department of Education. The
Quality Standards are based on development of language skills,
cognition, gross and fine motor skills and social skills.
Both the student’s progress and the programs are evaluated
by the CPP Council. The intent of the CPP program is to provide
children and their families with the highest quality services
available. Seeds of Learning has a contract with the CPP program
and currently enrolls 22 students.
The
Incredible Years
Seeds is a part of the pilot program of Incredible Years sponsored
by Invest in Kids. This program includes: skill building for
children, skill building for parents, and skill building for
teachers. These are accomplished through several arenas. One
is a course in parenting skills. Another is the use of Dinosaur
School, incorporating several puppets that through interaction
with the children increase understanding in behavioral issues,
setting limits, etc.
The Incredible Years parenting program was written to help
parents with children between the ages of three and eight
to cope with behavior problems. The program increases parent communication, limit-setting, problem-solving and anger management
skills. Seeds of Learning offers the parenting class once
a year. They provide materials for the class, dinner for the
entire family and childcare while the parent attends the class.
All of this is free of charge to parents, funded through grants.
The second piece of Incredible Years is the Dinosaur school
offered in the preschool. The program instills conflict management
and problem solving skills in children ages 3 to 5. The use
of puppets Dina, Wally and Molly contribute to the success
of Dinosaur school. The goal of the program is to promote
positive academic and social behavior. Seeds of Learning has
been implementing both pieces of the Incredible Years program
for 3 years.

Lunches and Snacks
Seeds serves a hot lunch daily provided by
Archuleta County Kitchen. Each lunch is federally approved
and provides children the opportunity to learn about a wide
variety of foods as part of a well balanced diet.
In addition to the hot lunches, our parents cooperate
with one another to supply two nutritious snacks each day.
Tuition Costs
The cost of caring for one child for one day is approximately $50. Our typical tuition cost is $25 per day in the toddler room
and $25 per day in the preschool room, which includes
a hot lunch brought in each day from Archuleta County Kitchen.
With encouragement from our many funders, in 2008 we implemented the following sliding scale.

Scheduled Events
Nurse Consultant
The nurse visits the center regularly. She screens for sight
and hearing. She examines immunization records and informs
the parents when new immunizations are due. It was our nurse
who discovered that one of our children needed glasses. What
a change that has made for the child.
The nurse also keeps the staff up to date with health exams
with training in CPR, First Aid, Universal Precautions, and
Medical Administration. Additionally, she provides information
on timely issues such as how to detect a child exposed to
methamphetamines.
Hair Cuts
Periodically Seeds enlists the aid of a beautician in the
area who comes into the center and gives free hair cuts to
any child whose parent wants them. We have had several different
beauticians participate in this program.
Aid to Teens
Seeds offers encouragement to teenagers through both the School
To Work program and the Community Service Program. We take
these opportunities to introduce teens to early childhood
education as a career choice. We also provide an affirming
environment for each of these young people that is intended
to increase their confidence in their own ability to make
better choices for their future.
